Finding a Job is a Full Time Job

If you are looking for a job, this may be the busiest time for you because finding work can be (and should be) a full time job. Too many people sit around a wait for jobs to come to them, and that just doesn’t happen. It’s not about putting in those two applications per week to satisfy “the man” at the unemployment office either. or catching up with friend or projects about the house. Think of yourself as a business that just lost it’s only client and you are on a mission to replace it. You’ll need to look at your financial situation pretty closely as well. Know exactly what your weekly and monthly budgets are and how long you can survive without working based on your emergency funds in savings.
While you are looking, don’t let anyone suck you into the “I know your now working so I figured you could help me” routine. Unless they are paying you more than what you would make for your actual job, kindly explain to them that you actually do have a full time job of finding paying work. They may offer to pay you so know what your rate is. Perhaps you will get some money to help carry you through, but most of all, they should respect your work ethic and the fact that you 100% committed to finding work. If they give you a hard time tell them that you feel guilty since they are working and you aren’t and you don’t want to be a drain on the system. That will at least lighten the mood.
Stay tuned for the next post where I will discuss multiple, practical ways to find work.
